Calling Prospective Team Members using an Icebreaker

One of the best training tools our team has found is the PM Marketing system. Though they are known as a lead provider for network marketing, the training provided by Peter Mingils through live conference calls, archived audios, and videos is outstanding.

The first tool that is taught is how to deliver an Icebreaker when you are calling prospective team members. Below is the sample Icebreaker. Modify it to your voice and speech pattern, but do not change the structure. The best Icebreaker will last 30 to 60 seconds. The major impact of the Icebreaker is to create Safety and Curiosity.

Here's how the PM Marketing Icebreaker looks:

Hello (lead first name) ? This is (your first name),

Hey, listen (optional), the reason why I am calling is that I work with a business referral service, which is little like an advertising and promotion company.

(lead first name) we pay them a lot of money to go all across the country and do advertising for us on the phone and on the Internet and you must have clicked on something we did.

Now I have to tell you (lead first name), that whenever we do any kind of advertising, we usually are swamped with positive responses. Sometimes, it's a bit overwhelming how many people are interested in the things that we do. And even though a lot of people reply by submitting information through the Internet or by email, I find it a bit overwhelming to try to communicate only through email.

Probably like you, I get way too much email... and besides that,I learn a lot more about people when I do it the old fashioned way, you know, just pick up the phone and talk.

It's really interesting, I find most people are nice and polite and generally interested...so I usually ask them, "So what are you looking for?" Or "What do you really want?" And they tell me.

They say things like, You know (your first name), I don't really know specifically, but I am looking for a way to make more money, or do something better, or something different, or maybe even work from home...

So I figured I would call you (lead first name), and ask you what are you really looking for, and is it any one of these things: to make extra money, or do something
better, or do something different, or maybe even work from home?

Note: when they respond... have them expand...say something like, "oh really, why's that?"

As our team members have been trained in how to deliver the perfect Icebreaker, they understand the benefit of starting with this tool. When you incorporate the Icebreaker into your phone calling, I believe you will also see the benefit.
